Question: Dear Pastor Chris, thank you so much for the teachings you share with us. I am currently a health care student and I work with people with communication and speech difficulties. I am aware that for someone to receive salvation, they have to believe and confess with their mouth. How do people who are unable to speak, receive salvation. From: Lios (United Kingdom)
Pastor Chris: Let me explain, I am speaking in English language to you and you can hear me and understand what I am speaking because you understand English. Now if you don’t understand English, you have no clue what I am saying, it doesn’t make sense to you but just because you don’t understand English and what I am saying doesn’t make sense to you, doesn’t mean I am not talking. It doesn’t mean what I am saying has no meaning, it has no meaning to you. Now, if you ever observe people with speech defect, there are two kinds of problem and there may be many more. One is the inability to control their vocal organs, may be their tongue, their lips whatever, could have some paralysis in that area, then you also have some others, who are unable to have a connection between their understanding and their vocal organs. In the first instance you don’t have a problem, why? Because the one they are going to be talking to is God. God will understand, I’ll put it this way, imagine you have a child who is able to make some noise and talk to you not intelligibly and he says “Da-da-da-da-za-na-na”. Now for one person, he is not making sense but he’s making sense to someone who understands children and their communication. There are some expertise that study children and they can tell you what the child is asking for, or what the child is saying but this expertise are not near as good as God. So, that takes me to the second part, to explain both imagine that the individual understood the message through your sign language or whatever form you are able to communicate with him who has speech defects, as long as he as understood you and you tell him to say those things best way he can, they may not make sense to you, they will make sense to God because they are coming from his heart and he is making the noise of what he believes vocalizing whatever it is, I mean if somebody spoke the Hausa language and you don’t understand anything about that, if he made a confess of Jesus Christ, you wouldn’t know what he is saying. So, in the same way, as long as he has an understanding of the message of the gospel you communicated to him, let him say it the best way he knows and however he is going to communicate it, God will hear him. So, you live that up to God because he will hear him. Now, the second part, the second one is the one that has a problem. If he doesn’t understand in such a way has to even communicate, it means that the problem is not the speech problem, is an understanding problem. So, we will then be asking a completely different question that if someone doesn’t understand, how can he receive salvation? Of course, he cannot receive salvation till he understands because the bible says the sower went forth to sow and has he sowed some seeds fell by the way side and the birds of the air came and pick them up. Jesus said those who received seed by the way side are those who hear the word of God and don’t understand it and then satan comes immediately and steals the word that was sown in their heart. So, if they don’t understand it there will be no fruit, so the problem is not a speech problem, understanding problem but if it is a speech problem and he has understanding, let him say the best way he can, he can go “wow-ooooo” Is coming from his heart God hears it, Period!
